Become Part of Christchurch's Woodturning Community

Whether you are completely new to woodturning or already have years of experience, Christchurch Woodturners Association is a welcoming place to learn, create and connect with others who enjoy working with wood.

As a member, you can access club facilities, take part in meetings, workshops and demonstrations, learn from experienced turners, and be part of a friendly community that shares ideas, skills and encouragement.

You do not need to be an expert to join. Curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go are more than enough. To join either download our joining form and bring to the next club meeting or complete your details on-line.

Why Join?

Christchurch Woodturners Association is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation, created to foster, encourage and educate people in the art and craft of woodturning.

Membership gives you the opportunity to:

Attend regular club meetings and demonstrations
Use the Auburn Reserve Workshop once you have received the appropriate instruction
Access hands-on learning, advice and tuition
Take part in workshops, interest groups and club events
Join the Certificate in Woodturning course when available
Receive club newsletters and regular updates

Learn, Practise And Be Inspired

Woodturning is best learned by watching, asking questions and having a go.

Our members include beginners, hobby turners, experienced craftspeople and tutors who generously share their knowledge.

Whether you want to make your first bowl, improve your technique or explore more creative projects, you’ll find plenty of inspiration and support.

Workshop Access at Auburn Reserve

Members can access our well-equipped workshop at Auburn Reserve during open workshop sessions.

The workshop supports club tuition and gives members the chance to use equipment and facilities they may not have at home. For safety, members need to receive the appropriate instruction before using workshop machinery.

The club also provides wood for organised teaching and hands-on workshops, with limited wood available for projects completed at the workshop.

Membership and Fees

Our membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March, with an annual subscription of $50. To help keep membership affordable, some activities have small user-pays fees:

Club meeting door fee: $3 for members, including refreshments
Workshop door fee: $5 per day
Raffle tickets at club meetings: $1 each
Certificate course days: currently $30 per teaching day, plus National Association of Woodworkers membership if enrolled
